Still Waters Counseling is a family-friendly practice specializing in the holistic treatment of mental and behavioral disorders. Founded in a home office as Hudson Family Therapy in 2000, Still Waters Counseling now has three offices with ten clinicians of widely varying experience and skill. The practice changed its name to Still Waters Counseling LLC in 2004 to reflect our aim as therapists to be still and reflective, as well as the peace and calm that we hope our clients will attain through counseling.

Still Waters Counseling is pleased to announce the addition of Irene G. Voss, MSN, PMHNP-BC and Rita McBean, MSN, PMHNP-BC to our staff.  Both Irene and Rita are board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners with multiple years of nursing experience. As Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners they are able to provide prescription medication management and consultation for treatment of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder etc.

Comprehensive Evaluations

A unique feature of our practice is the availability of psychologists to carry out comprehensive psychological evaluations. Such evaluations clarify diagnoses as well as identify strengths.

Significant time and resources can be saved with a comprehensive assessment, telling us what a particular set of symptoms does and does not represent. For instance, an evaluation can distinguish disorders that appear similar, such as ADHD, anxiety, Obsessive-compulsive Disorder, Learning Disability, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In addition to diagnostic clarification, we provide personalized recommendations and guidance following comprehensive evaluation. These assessments are available for children, adolescents and adults.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT)

MBT is a therapeutic framework that makes optimal use of present-moment awareness to facilitate change. Therapists using this framework are often very present, calm and reflective. Many of our therapists make use of this framework, often combining it with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to treat ailments like generalized anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, phobias, depression, and even ADHD.

Group Therapy and Skills Training

We offer groups and skills training as a supplement to therapy or sometimes in place of traditional therapy (if the therapist feels it appropriate). Currently, we have groups in mindfulness-based skills and grief recovery. Additionally, we provide individual instruction in computer-based biofeedback and neurofeedback. Such training is especially helpful in improving focus, frustration tolerance, and impulse control as well as in regulating negative emotions. People who may benefit from skills training include adults and children with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and family/relationship difficulties.

The Nurtured Heart Approach

The Nurtured Heart Approach is a relationship-focused parenting and educational approach that provides a powerful set of strategies designed specifically to turn a child around to a new pattern of success in positive and creative ways. Parents who have tried other traditional methods with minimal or no positive outcomes often find the Nurtured Heart Approach to be a powerful force of change in their homes (and hearts).
